Abstract | One of the main problems to use area sampling techniques for crop area estimate in Brazil is the lack of available up-to-date metric aerial photographs. This work aims to evaluate fused Landsat7-ETM images for ground survey data collection to identify and map land features, that should replace the use of metric aerial photographs. The ETM spectral bands 3, 4, 5 and 7 were used in different RGB combinations merged with the panchromatic band to produce images with better spatial resolution through IHS fusion technique. The resulting images were plotted in 1:25,000 scale and used in a ground survey campaign including 85 sampling segments. Results pointed out that fused images allowed to identify and map land features in the sampled segments. Therefore, fused ETM images presented good potential for ground survey data collection to identify and map land features for crop area estimates based on area sampling techniques. |
